The CBB is both an academic unit under the Office of Vice President for Research (OVPR) at The University of Iowa and a microbial manufacturing facility providing protein products for Phase-1 clinical trials & other research purposes. The CBB not only aims to provide trainings for future biotech professionals, but also to attract biotech start-ups & other more established biotech service providers to the Iowa City-Coralville area. In order to do so, the CBB provides funding opportunities, leadership, and facilities to enhance collaborations between these biotech companies. 

Because the Greater Iowa City Inc. (Greater IC) is a network of business & public sector leaders collaborating on supporting local companies, guide investment, and grow a resilient economy, the CBB’s mission strongly aligns with that of the Greater IC, hence a mutually advantageous partnership.
